Summary & Background
The Two Row Wampum and Silver Covenant Chain state that we as Onkwehon:we people are to live free from interference from foreigners.
The Nanfan Treaty of 1701, an agreement between the Onkwehon:we, the French and the British extends to the British and the French the ability to live here as our neighbours. However, they do not have the ability or right to exert their sovereignty over us as we are not subjects of the Crown. Therefore, their laws do not apply to us.
The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples states in article 20:
1. Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain and develop their political, economic and social systems or institutions to be secure in the enjoyment of their own means of subsistence and developments and to engage freely in all their traditional and other economic activities
2. Indigenous peoples deprived of their means of subsistence and development are entitled to just and fair redress.
Thus, we have the duty to establish organizations that assist us in becoming economically sustainable as well as organizations that can provide support for our governance and social structures and institutions.
It is our intention to exercise our duty by operating a Casino on Six Nations. The vast majority (70%) of the net profits will be distributed directly back to the community members who opt to participate in the profit sharing pool.
